The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum,
with pictures by W.W.Denslow
“The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” (or simply “The Wizard of Oz”) was originally published in 1900. It became so popular that in the following years Lyman Frank Baum himself wrote 13 sequels, and even more have been written up to now by other authors, not to forget countless translations, adaptation, unofficial versions, etc. “The Wizard of Oz” has become one of the most widely read children books of the XXth century.
The illustrations by William Wallace Denslow to the 1900 edition shaped “classical” appearances of the book characters, just like the illustrations of Sir John Tenniel shaped those of Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland”
